Nicole Hogstrand is a Swedish cellist and composer residing in Copenhagen since 2009. Here she is a dedicated member of the new music and experimental music scene with a particular interest in exploring alternative artistic structures and nurturing a sense of authenticity and community. These values are reflected in her ongoing work with the ensembles Halvcirkel, Damkapellet, and Crush String Collective. With her ensembles she has released albums on FatCat Records/130701 (Clarice Jensen, Shida Shahabi, Keely Forsyth), Dacapo Records (Else Marie Pade, Bára Gísladóttir, Hans Abrahamsen), År & Dag (Anders Lauge Meldgaard, Copenhagen Clarinet Choir) and Barkhousen Recordings. Hogstrand studied the Royal Danish Academy of Music and Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University, Illinois, where she acquired a masters in cello performance. She is also self taught in Viola da Gamba.
As a performer of composed and improvised music she often collaborates with various artists and organisations in different artistic fields. Her expansive interest have led to countless collaborations and international appearances, for example with Terry Riley, Ellen Arkbro, Ellen Fullmann, Theresa Wong, Michelle Moeller, Blue Lake, Clarissa Connelly, Valgeir Sigurdsson, Lo Kristensson, , Christian Balvig, Anton Friisgaard, Anders Lauge Meldgaard, Sofie Birch, Agnes Kofoed Christenson, Kirstine Lindemann, Signe Lykke and many more.
Through her ensembles she receives several prizes and nominations at Danish Music Awards, Reumert and Ekko Shortlist and the artistic program Den Unge Kunstneriske Elite. Together with the female musical collective Damkapellet, she received Carl Nielsen and Anne-Marie Carl Nielsens Talent Prize in 2021 as composer.
Hogstrand is also a certified coach from Karin Boucher, The Big Picture in Sweden.
