Nicole Hogstrand is a Swedish contemporary cellist, composer and performer based in Copenhagen since 2009.
Hogstrand’s music is characterised by sensitivity in tones, nuances, and atmospheres, celebrating the human and the intimate. Her composing outlet is currently expressed through her ensembles Halvcirkel, Crush String Collective and Damkapellet and her work in music for film and other media. She has released albums on FatCat Records/130701 (Clarice Jensen, Shida Shahabi, Keely Forsyth), Dacapo Records, År og Dag and Barkhousen Recordings. Hogstrand acquired a masters in cello performance from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University, Illinois.
As a performer of composed and improvised music she often collaborates with various artists and organisations in different artistic fields. Pervious collaborations include Terry Riley, Valgeir Sigurdsson, Anders Lauge Meldgaard, Clarissa Connelly, Hania Rani, Louise Alenius, Ellen Fullman, Efterklang, Afsky, Blue Lake, Marc Facchini, Kirstine Lindemann, Lo Kristenson, Anton Friisgaard, Mads Emil Nielsen, Girls in Airports, Sofie Birch, Soli City, Vanessa Amara, Hannah Schneider, Christian Balvig, Signe Lykke, Marcela Lucatelli, Madame Nielsen and many more.
Through her ensembles she receives several prizes and nominations at Danish Music Awards, Reumert and Ekko Shortlist and the artistic program Den Unge Kunstneriske Elite. Together with the female musical collective Damkapellet, she received Carl Nielsen and Anne-Marie Carl Nielsens Talent Prize in 2021 as composer. As a soloist she received Mendelsohn International Music Prize.
Hogstrand is also a certified coach from Karin Boucher, The Big Picture in Sweden.
